Bethany Hamilton Scores Wildcard Entry in Fiji Pro

Bethany Hamilton Fiji Pro 2016

I remember seeing Bethany throwing airs at Pine Trees (Kauai) a few years back, and I’ve had mad respect for her ever since.

She surfs better than most women, and she does it with only one arm!

So it was great to find out that she was awarded the wildcard entry to the upcoming Fiji Pro.

The new mom surfed giant Jaws earlier this year, so hopefully she’s prepared for the powerful surf at Cloudbreak. Aaron Gold almost drowned the other day, but the swell will be backing off by the time the contest starts (May 29th – June 3rd).

According to Surfline, “Reports are calling for double overhead surf through the weekend before fading to about head high waves at the start of the competition window.”

Bethany voiced her excitement for for the upcoming contest, while managing to throw in a subtle plug for her new film 😉

“It’s been an amazing year full of beauty and challenge becoming a mom but also continuing my surfing career. I’ve loved working hard and I am feeling strong and sharp. With a lot of cross training and coming off a recent surf trip filming my film Surfs Like a Girl I feel good heading into this contest.”

Good luck Bethany!
