Pink waves in San Diego
Would you still surf if it looked like this?

If you were at Imperial Beach yesterday, you probably noticed something a little off.

The pink/purple waves were caused by 30 gallons of “harmless” dye released by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, so they can study the water movement along the coastline.

Scripps says this experiment will help them understand actual water pollution, if/when that happens. The dye hung around in the surf zone for a while, before making its way down to Mexico.

Regardless of how “harmless” they say the dye is, I wouldn’t want to be one of those surfers in the image! Clear water for me 🙂
